Mataram- BRIN Public Relations. Development of Human Resources (HR) in Indonesia is an important strategy in welcoming the Golden Indonesia 2045. One of them is strengthening the capacity of the younger generation to become superior talents in mastering technology through research and innovation. This is in line with the mandate of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who considers it important to develop science and technology human resources to support national development.
This statement was made by Deputy for Human Resources, Science and Technology of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Edy Giri Rachman, during an audience meeting with Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, Zulkieflimansyah, at the NTB Governor’s Office, Mataram, Thursday (07/04). During the meeting, the two officials discussed the potential for cooperation and collaboration between BRIN and local governments.
“Cooperation and collaboration to build a research ecosystem, especially human capital development requires reliable collaboration between all parties. We are very grateful that the Regional Government of NTB through the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has become a potential partner to work together with BRIN to build a solid research element,” said Edy.
Edy revealed that Indonesia will face a demographic bonus of its population, so that utilization of quality human resources will be the determinant and driving factor how research and innovation develop. Therefore, development of National Talent Management in the field of research and innovation needs collaboration and harmonious orchestration.
“How the regional and central governments synergize with each other to support the competency of science and technology HR in Indonesia through the process of science education, capacity building at the education level through study assistance, as well as building a research ecosystem from upstream to downstream can be performed in a number of ways,” said Edy.
As an effort to introduce research and innovation to the younger generation, BRIN together with the NTB Regional Government led by BRIDA NTB will hold a big event for the young people from all over Indonesia, i.e., the National Youth Research and Innovation Week, the activity to introduce research culture to students at the junior-high school level, college students and scientific enrichment for academics or the scientific community.
“This program is expected to motivate young Indonesian talents to love research more. This year will be different from the previous one, as we will perform a variety of activities so that all sectors from the younger generation to researchers and academics can get benefits. The process of developing science and technology human resources is absolute and must be done,” said Edy.
This activity carries the theme of building a Blue Green Economy and will be held from 3-9 July 2022. It is hoped that hundreds of Indonesian youths will gain experience to be part of those solving challenges and becoming problem solvers in the NTB area using research and innovation studies.
In line with the idea of supporting the position of local governments in strengthening the potential of research and innovation in people’s lives, Zulkieflimansyah said that the presence of BRIDA NTB is a form of transformation of research institutions in Indonesia that combines upstream to downstream processes, from developing the competency of human resource through scholarships to bringing together business and research and innovation results.
“BRIDA NTB is different from the others because translation of innovation research activities must have a comprehensive approach from all sectors in order to be felt the community. It is like producing a champion, the first step that can be taken is to broaden the horizon and experiences of NTB youth to study abroad through a scholarship scheme provided the local government. They will gain not only the knowledge, but also sense of nationalism and the desire to do something more for the nation in the future,” said Zulkieflimansyah.
The Governor of NTB, Bang Zul as he is affectionately called, also emphasized that by integrating all research institutions, especially in regions into BRIN or BRIDA, the activities that are downstream research such as incubation and commercialization are important because bringing together the innovation research sector into business schemes can accelerate the development of local innovation and business.
“Research and innovation must be brought together with the business sector, so that the results can be utilized in the long term. So the process of developing the research ecosystem can take the form of introducing a research culture, upgrading the level of education to incubation and commercialization of research results. This is what a Research Institution is,” he asserted. (yt).
