Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. Politeknik Teknologi Nuklir Yogyakarta or the Yogyakarta Nuclear Technology Polytechnic, formerly known as Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Nuklir (STTN) is a service-bond university that focuses on meeting the increasing needs for educated Indonesian human resources who are professional in the field of nuclear technology. The change of STTN status to a Nuclear Technology Polytechnic is based on Regulation of the Minister of Research and Technology Number 54 of 2018 concerning Organization of Diploma Programs in an Open System at Higher Education.
The Nuclear Technology Polytechnic was inaugurated on 30 October 2021 as a follow-up to BRIN Regulation No. 13 of 2021 which has been promulgated since 28 October 28 2021, and Government Regulation No 4 of 2012 concerning Organization and Management of Higher Education. Furthermore, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, appointed Zainal Arief as Director of the Nuclear Technology Polytechnic, Thursday (17/02).
Previously, Zainal Arief served as Director of the Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic (PENS) for the 2013-2021 period. Under the leadership of the man who was born on 28 January 28 1967, PENS has become an independent and rapidly growing Polytechnic, even becoming the best polytechnic school in Indonesia in 2017.
The appointment of Zainal Arief as Director of the Nuclear Technology Polytechnic was based on the results of an assessment carried out on 2 November 2021. Of the three candidates taking part in the assessment process, Zainal Arif met the criteria and was confirmed as Director of the Nuclear Technology Polytechnic.
He completed his Diploma III education in electrical engineering at the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya in 1988, before continuing to the undergraduate level (S1) majoring in electronical engineering at the same university and graduated in 1993.
Eager to have education beyond undergraduate level, Zainal continued to the master level also in electromedical engineering at ITS, which he completed in 2005. Then he went on to take the doctorate level at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan where he successfully earned the degree of Dr. Eng. in 2011.
As an academician, Zainal Arief is very active in conducting various studies from 2014 to 2020. The studies that he has been carried out include design and implementation of the prototype of prosthetic hand to help amputee patients in 2014.
He also conducted a research entitled PRIMO (PENS Robotics Intelligent Mover) as future modern transportation means to increase logistics productivity in various industrial sectors in 2019. In the same year, he carried out research with the title Development of a Multi-Dimensional Echocardiographic Image System to Detect Heart Diseases using the Health Kiosk Application. In 2020 Zainal Arief conducted a research entitled Covid-19 suction robot to assist dentists in doing operation.
From those various studies and research, he has produced two patents, namely Anti Surface Tilting Drive System Design for Automated Guided Vehicle (Agv) Robots, under Application Number S00202001685, Announcement Number 2020/Sid/01126, Simple Patent, 28 February 2020. In addition, he also earned a patent related to the Control System of Two-Way Sepic Converter for Power Optimization in Photovoltaic Electrical Energy Storage, under Application No. P00201903638, Announcement No.: 2020/01502.
