Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. Measuring the performance of an employee requires an assessment of the employee’s performance achievements through Minimum Performance Outputs (KKM). This Minimum Work Output is the main activity element that must be at least achieved by science and technology human resources as the prerequisite for achieving work results.

According to Albertus Sulaiman, a Senior Researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in an online interview, Sunday (23/01), this KKM is the minimum requirement for output or work within a period of one year that must be produced by a researcher, as a quantitative and quality measure for the researcher.

Albertus added that at the beginning of a year, ideally a researcher should fill in what his/her output target is for that year, which output is adjusted to the capability or data possessed by the researcher. “Note, for researchers related to nature, data is very important. Without data we will not be able to produce scientific papers that can be published in reputable international journals,” said Albertus.

He gave an example; in Indonesia many phenomena are highly dependent on the patterns of season. If in 2022 you can only measure performance in the dry season, your highest output target is in journals with middle to lower reputations. “Later, for the 2023 target, when you are able to get data for one season circle, the target can be raised to a high-reputation journal,” he added.

According to Albertus, KKM has been implemented at BRIN. An example of this implementation; a principal researcher must have the KKM of at least a work published in 1 (one) high-reputation international journal, while a research professor must, other than in the journal above, also have graduate and post-graduate students under his/her current guidance.

“I propose that if a research professor does not have students, his/her professor’s allowance should be stopped. Professors are basically teachers, professors, how can someone be called a teacher if they do not have students? Therefore, with the KKM, a researcher will be motivated to be productive,” he said further.

Albertus continued that the current development of science is very fast. It is difficult for someone to work alone, so cooperation is needed. Without cooperation and opening up one self and insight, it is very difficult for researchers to produce global quality products.

Albertus emphasized that the importance of integration for researchers is to close up the sectoral ego barrier that all this time strongly attached. With this integration, each researcher can collaborate with researchers from anywhere and from any research center, without being constrained by permission from superiors as happened thus far.

“It is hoped that socialization on this matter can be improved in the future, because not all former LPNKs within BRIN know what KKM is and its implementation, Besides, KKM must be carried out in an accountable manner and by observing the global conditions,” concluded Albertus.(sj)
