Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, invites the younger generation to become researchers. According to him, you do not have to be a scientist to be a researcher. Researcher is the behavior of a professional to be sensitive to existing problems, and creative to find solutions.

“Researchers are a process of thinking, being creative, and sensitive so that they can find problems and then be creative to find solutions to those problems,” said Handoko in an interview with Okezone, Monday (10/01).

He said that research is not the exclusive world of scientists. Anyone can be a researcher, anyone can have a patent.

“The world of scientists is different, because the world of scientists requires various things,” he added.

Therefore, he wants young generation in Indonesia to become researchers in various fields.

“Because researchers are professional behavior, how to think and be sensitive to problems, then creatively find solutions. And (the solution) will be a product or service if he is an entrepreneur or in the industry,” he said.

When asked about research related to the handling of Covid-19, Handoko said, BRIN is still continuing the development of the Merah Putih vaccine, as well as surveillance services for the mutation of Covid-19 variant based on Whole Genome Sequencing.

The amount of information circulating on social media, such as information about the Covid-19 pandemic, makes people free to argue so that there is a “side effect” of loss of expertise. In responding to this, Handoko said he is concerned.

However, he sees the positive side that the existence of social media makes people care and educated.

“What we can do is create alternative information. So that people, especially the younger generation, are able to sort out the information independently. I believe our society is getting smarter. The most important thing is that people can receive, sort, and understand information. That is part of science and technology literacy process,” he said (tnt).
