Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. The National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN RI) supports the National Committee on Sharia Economy and Finance (KNEKS) through sharia economic and ecosystem research. This support is realized by the construction of a research center that focuses on halal food products located at the Natural Material Technology Research Center (BPTBA) in Gunung Kidul. BRIN also supports programs that are in line and can be synergized through various funding schemes.

Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, said that studies and research related to zakat, alms, management policies are not easy, but tend to be complex. However, according to him, BRIN can create a funding scheme that can be competed openly for all researchers with special studies, such as zakat management. “So that later every policy adopted by the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) has a research basis,” he explained.

Noor Achmad, chairman of BAZNAS revealed that research in Indonesia is still on a small scale and sectoral in nature, so it will be difficult to produce large innovations. With the existing research funds, BRIN is expected to be able to create innovations related to community social funds.

“We really hope that BRIN can become a great force for Indonesia by gathering great researchers. Indonesia, which has a fairly large zakat potential, is also expected to have research related to social funds. So many things require research that we can use as a guide for our future activities,” said Noor during an audience at the BJ Habibie Building, Jakarta (13/1).

During the meeting, Handoko hoped that the BRIN Zakat Collecting Unit (UPZ) can be formed soon. For this reason, he hopes that BAZNAS will support the UPZ transition at BRIN. “We are very grateful for the trust and support given by BAZNAS to BRIN. We are very confident with our good intentions and faith we can carry out the great mandate given to BRIN,” said Handoko.

For information, previously every institution had UPZ BAZNAS including the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), and the Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN). However, since the merger of these four Non-Ministerial Government Institutions (LPNK) into BRIN, BRIN must form a new UPZ within BRIN. (frd/ ed: drs)
