Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) through the Research and Technology Agency (BRITEK) held an audience with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), at B.J Habibie Building, Thamrin, Jakarta, Thursday (13/01).
Head of KADIN BRITEK, Ilham Habibie said, BRIN is one of KADIN’s main partners in jointly making the industry in Indonesia a success. According to him, currently the domestic industry has yet to orient to research and development (R&D).
“For example, the automotive industry, the research is carried out outside Indonesia, and here we only have workshops or plants manufacturing the products,” he said.
For this reason, continued Ilham, there needs to be a much more substantial R&D in the industry.
“So we want a long-term, in-depth and strategic cooperation with BRIN,” said Ilham.
Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, welcomed the discussion on collaboration opportunities between KADIN and BRIN. He said integration of R&D units into BRIN makes BRIN have a large capacity, especially viewed from 3 aspects, namely human resources, infrastructure, and budget.
“The main goal of BRIN is not only to advance BRIN researchers, but to ensure to what extent business players can enter research with its various problems,” he said.
He said, BRIN has various funding and facilitation schemes that are open to all circles, including the industry based on competition. According to him, so far the industry is reluctant to enter the world of research because of expensive research investment, especially investment in human resources and infrastructure.
“All this time, the industry is not willing to enter into research because of high cost and high risk, expensive investment, while the results are not necessarily there. Therefore, we provide human resources and infrastructure, and it is free. The relationship will be licensed-based. If there are research results, we ask them to pay for a license, but if it does not work, that is okay, we can work together again,” he said.
The results of discussion at this audience will be followed up with dissemination within KADIN regarding BRIN’s funding and facilitation scheme and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BRIN and KADIN (tnt).
