In the context of supporting even-distribution of science-technology and innovation (iptekin) policies and accelerating social and economic growth, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) together with the Pegunungan Bintang Regency Government and Okmin University, Papua have agreed to establish cooperation in the fields of education, research, and innovation on Tuesday (18/01).
Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, said that Pegunungan Bintang Regency, which is located in the border area and has highland characteristics, has its own unique social and cultural characteristics. This poses a unique challenge for BRIN in boosting research and innovation activities in Pegunungan Bintang Regency.
“We are ready to provide supports, particularly in the form of facilitating the development of human resource knowledge, and implementing some research activities in collaboration with Okmin University Papua,” said the Head of BRIN.
The Regent of Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Spei Yan Bidana, hopes that this collaboration will be able to open the door for research and innovation activities so as to support the increasing of regional capacity. As one of the regions located at the tip of Papua, Pegunungan Bintang Regency is very rich in natural and human gifts, which can become the nation’s potential excellence in the future.
“With the advantages of abundant natural resources, we have to develop the humans otherwise we do not appreciate the nature’s grace. We want the people to be more skilled, intelligent, and educated. Through BRIN, with its support of innovation research, I hope we can increase the added value for our economic and social interests,” said Regent Spei Yan Bidana.
This cooperation statement was signed by Acting Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization Mego Pinandito, representating BRIN, and Regent Spei Yan Bidana and Rector of Okmin University Papua Suryasatriya Trihandaru, witnessed by the Head of BRIN. Subsequently, based on this cooperation statement, a collaboration program scheme will be drawn up and incorporated in a memorandum of agreement and understanding on joint research and innovation activities.
