Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and PT. Hasnur Jaya Power agreed to conduct research, development and innovation of carbon capture and gasification technology. This was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between BRIN and PT. Hasnur Jaya Power.

The signing was carried out by BRIN’s Acting Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization, Mego Pinandito and President Director of PT. Hasnur Jaya Power, Soma Ariyaka, at Office 8 Building, SCBD, South Jakarta, Friday (08/04).

PT Hasnur Jaya Power is a limited liability company engaged in the energy business. President Director of PT. Hasnur Jaya Power, Soma Ariyaka, said that the company plans to develop a business to convert low-calorie coal to, but not limited to, ammonia and hydrogen.

In addition, the company plans to study the possibility of a mining area that will be further determined as an area for applying Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and gasification technology.

“We ask for expertise from the technology owned by BRIN. We also want to expand our business to be more focused on new and renewable energy. Hopefully this collaboration will be a good start,” he hoped.

BRIN’s Acting Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization, Mego Pinandito, said that current global conditions are focused on how to reduce carbon dioxide levels. In fact, the global community targets to achieve net zero emission by 2050.

“The results of research and innovation by BRIN researchers are not only limited to publications or patents, but must be used by the industry,” he said.

Mego added, with the integration of all research institutions into BRIN, the technology, especially in the energy sector, will be more complete.

“After the signing of this memorandum of understanding, it is necessary to immediately discuss with BRIN’s technical team on what technology will be used, so that partners can take advantage of the existing technology,” added Mego.

The scope of the Memorandum of Understanding between BRIN and PT. Hasnur Jaya Power includes research activities and technological innovations related to conversion of low-calorie coal. It is hoped that utilization of the results of this research and innovation can boost economic activity.

Furthermore, the feasibility study to be carried out includes the potential and opportunities for the application of technology, not limited to hydrogen and ammonia, and also the CCS technology in the mining area.

Other scopes include the logistics fleet, ports, and infrastructure on products, not limited to coal and hydrogen, and identification of alternative business models. The scope also includes the use of facilities and infrastructure owned by both parties (tnt, maa).
