Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) signed a memorandum of understanding at the BJ Habibie Thamrin building on Wednesday (09/02). This memorandum of understanding which was signed directly by the Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko and the Head of BIG, Muh Aris Marfai, is an effort made by both parties to strengthen cooperation in the field of research and innovation.

“Today, we agreed to increase the capability of geospatial information development nationally, in seeking to realize the one map policy within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. This is the priority program to manifest the Nawa Cita (the nine key program) which goal is to create a unified, accurate, and accountable map with the same scale to support development planning, infrastructure provision, issuance of permits, concessions, land rights, and spatially-based national policies,” said Handoko.

The scope of the signed memorandum of understanding includes implementation of research and innovation related to organization of geospatial information, utilization of research results and innovations in the field of geospatial information, sharing of geospatial data and information, utilization of research and innovation expertise in the field of geospatial information, human resource development, and use of facilities and infrastructure.

“The collaboration in research and innovation of Geospatial Information is an important milestone in the use of GI between BIG and BRIN. BIG will oversee the implementation of the 1:5,000-scale base map over the next two to three years. This effort certainly requires supports from every agency, including BRIN, “said Aris.

The collaboration, which will last for a period of 5 (five) years between BRIN and BIG, will synergize the resources and competencies they have to support the implementation of tasks and functions to contribute to the achievement of research and innovation in the context of providing geospatial information and efforts to provide optimal information services.

Also present at the signing of this memorandum of understanding were BRIN’s Acting Deputy for Human Resources and Science and Technology; BRIN’s Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization; Acting Head of Aviation and Space RO; BRIN’s Acting Head of Legal and Cooperation Bureau; BIG’s Deputy for Basic Geospatial Information; BIG’s Head of Research, Promotion and Cooperation Center; BIG’s Head of Center for Marine and Coastal Environment Mapping, and  BIG’s Coordinator of Public Relations and Cooperation.
