Jakarta, BRIN Public Relations. The of Archaeological, Language and Literary Research Organization (Arbastra RO) was formed by virtue of Regulation of the National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN), No. 12 of 2022 concerning the Tasks, Functions, and Organizational Structure of Archaeological, Language and Literary Research Organization, as a follow-up to the restructuring of organization and management of research, and researchers of BRIN.

“The 427 researchers who recently joined BRIN come from the National Archaeological Research Center (Arkenas), and Archeological Centers in 10 cities, including researchers from the Cultural Values Conservation Agency (BPNB), the Language Agency, and Research and Development of the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” said Acting Head of Arbastra RO, Herry Jogaswara, at the Morning Roll Call ceremony, in Jakarta (28/03).

Herry said that this integration is expected to have a positive effect, as it is good for the progress and development of archeology, as well as language, literature, and religious treasures.

Herry further explained that Arbastra RO is required to produce knowledge as solution to the nation’s problems from the perspective of culture, natural wealth, language, and literature, and will become a scientific reference at the national, regional, and global levels.

“The Arbastra RO has 7 research centers which include: Prehistoric and Historical Archeology; Environmental, Maritime and Sustainable Cultural Archeology; Archeom; Language and Literature Preservation; Language, Literature, and Community; Manuscripts, Literature, and Oral Traditions; and  Treasures of Religion and Civilization,” he said.

According to Herry, the Arbastra RO has 2 Program Homes (RP), namely Archipelago Civilization and National Identity. Each has 7 research clusters which produce 150 publications.

The contribution of Abastra RO’s national strategic policy from Archipelago Civilization RP is to give “nutrition” of inherent knowledge, the national strategic policies in terms of diversity, maritime affairs, outermost region development, and sustainable development.

The National Identity RP provides guidelines on state life; interaction, management of the environment, cultural heritage, and the value of ideas in past, common welfare, sovereignty and integrity of unity, based on the Identity of Diversity, Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

The Arbastra RO has collaborated with various parties, both at home and abroad, among others collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Australian National University, and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

The Arbastra RO has performed three international activities; SEAMEO Regional Center for Archeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA), the 22nd Congress of the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Asso, and the 12th annual meeting of the European Society for the study of Human Evolution (ESHE).  (TRS/ed. NS)
