Yogyakarta – Shopping app OkeSayur created by students of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) earned a gold medal on the 2019 YTECH, Female Founders with Silicon Valley Mindset. The winning gave OkeSayur team a chance to learn about the start-up ecosystem in Silicon Valley, America.

“Other than that, we also get an incubation or acceleration program and fundings from angel investors,” said the OkeSayur Co-Founder, Nindi Kusuma Ningrum, when contacted on Sunday night (13/10).

The 2019 YTECH is a digital start-up competition to attract young talents, especially young women of Indonesia with sociopreneur spirit to improve social welfare. The competition has been started since June to October 2019, and participated by 65 teams from various regions across the country.

“From the 65 teams registered, a selection process were held to get the Top 9, and eventually to get the Top 3 to present in front of juries,” said the IT Faculty student.

In the competition, Nindi alongside Nathanael Gavin and Tommy Wahyu Yudialim from Computer Science as representatives of OkeSayur team submitted the app which is a shopping and delivery service app for groceries and food products with the tagline of “More Than Just Shopping Groceries”. Currently, the OkeSayur app has over 1,500 users and more than 2,000 downloads.

Nindi stated that the development of OkeSayur app started with the concern upon the traditional markets existence which are getting weaker each day, due to the modern lifestyle changes. Seeing the condition, she and the fellow students in UGM finally came up with the idea to develop an app that could help people to shop for groceries, while keep sustaining the traditional markets.

Various kinds of groceries and foodstuffs offered through the OkeSayur app are obtained from traditional markets around Yogyakarta and Klaten. The app serves around 150 products including vegetables, fruits, seafoods, meats, herbs, and organic products.

OkeSayur has a number of shopping features such as catalogue selection, location setting, delivery, and payment. Developed since the end of 2017, the app is available in Google Playstore. People can also make the orders through the okesayur.com website, and WhatsApp chats. Currently, the OkeSayur shopping service has reached the consumers in Yogyakarta, Sleman, Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Klaten.
