Surabaya – Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again showed its achievement in the world of international robotics. Attending the 2019 Tübitak International Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Competition held in Istanbul, Turkey, for four days since last Monday (16/9), the Bayucaraka Team from ITS won the first place in the Fixed Wing category.

Mohamad Ikbal Pangestu, Public Relations of Bayucaraka Team of ITS, explained that in addition to winning the first prize, his team’s aircraft robot also successfully achieved the best design. All teams in the Fixed Wing category are required to finish two missions in the competition.

Firstly, the unmanned aircrafts are required to do a maneuver and form a number “8” while flying. In this mission, Bayucaraka Team from ITS managed to be the fastest with autonomous control (without control). “Manual control is actually allowed, but with less score than the autonomous,” said the Chemistry Department student.

While on the second mission, the young man who’s often called Ikbal continued, that each aircraft is challenged to drop an item from the air to a predetermined area. Amazingly, the ITS robot aircraft is also fortunate to be able to get the closest distance.

Ikbal admitted, that Bayucaraka Team of ITS also took part in the same competition in 2018, but only gained the fifth place. “Based on many evaluations from previous year, thankfully this year we could perform optimally and successfully won the first place,” said the second year student.

The competition was also attended by more than 40 teams from 30s different countries. Apart from ITS, Indonesia also sent the teams from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). The Bayucaraka Team’s achievements will certainly bring the name of ITS and Indonesia to international world.

Not only that, Bayucaraka Team will also prepare themselves to win the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI) which is officially held by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. “We expect that Bayucaraka Team could also win the first place in the national contest,” he added.
