South Tangerang – Minister for Research and Technology/Chairman of National Agency for Research and Innovation Bambang Brodjonegoro believes that various facilities of research, development, assessment, and application in the Research Center for Science and Technology (Puspiptek) managed by the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Agency for Research and Innovation, especially the Center of Research, Development, Assessment, and Application managed by the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and the Nation Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN), can be developed continuously so they could be used by the industries, research institutions, universities, and public. Both facilities of BPPT and BSN are just two areas of the entire Puspiptek complex, in addition to the facilities managed by Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
“Indonesia have to be sure that our millennials, the activist of the Research, Development, Assessment, and Application, will develop those centers, so those centers will not only encourage the downstreaming of technology to produce industrial scale of innovation products, but also provide services to those who need centers/labs in Puspiptek area,” said Minister Bambang on his visitation to Puspiptek in Serpong (South Tangerang) on Friday (15/11).
Minister Bambang stated that there are various facilities in various centers owned by BPPT and BSN in Puspiptek, which public have not been aware of them yet. These centers are the modes to develop research, technology, and innovation in Indonesia, including the wind tunnels in the Aero-Gas Dynamics and Vibration Labs which can assess the building models, airplanes, and drones.
“We have machine-related labs, natural resources labs, including labs or centers for handling forest fires, artificial rain, tsunami protection, and aerodynamics labs with wind tunnels,” said Minister Bambang.
Minister Bambang encourage Puspiptek, BPPT, BSN, and other non-ministry government institutions in Puspiptek complex to keep conducting research, development, assessment, and application and keep improving the facilities in order to create more innovations.
“We need these kinds of facilities, various labs especially related to machinery, because Indonesia needs to be prepared to be more competitive in manufacture industries,” said Minister Bambang.
In the visitation, Minister Bambang and the entourage visited the offices, centers, buildings, and labs managed by BPPT, including the Development Engineering Laboratory for Plant Equipment and Heavy Industry (DELPHI), Center for Machine Tools, Production, and Automation Technology (BTMEPPO), Center for Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity, and Aeroacoustics Technology (B2TA3), Center for Construction and Structure Technology (B2TKS), Center for Information and Communication Technology (PTIK), Material Technology Center (PTM), and Center for Fuel Technology and Design Engineering (BTBRD).
In addition to the facilities managed by BPPT, Minister Bambang also visited various labs in the National Standard Unit of Measure (SNSU) Building managed by BSN, including the laboratories of mass, length, temperature, electricity and time, medical and biological devices, and acoustics and vibrations (to measure earthquakes).
Also attending the occasion are the Director General of Innovation Development Jumain Appe, the Head of Research Center for Science and Technology (Puspiptek) Sri Setiawati, Head of Agency for the Assessment & Application of Technology (BPPT) Hammam Riza, Head of Nation Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) Bambang Prasetya, and the echelons and employees of Puspiptek, BPPT, and BSN.
